The Photography of Mario Gerth

I randomly came across the photography of Mario Gerth as a I filtered through Pinterst for African inspired interior design ideas. No matter what search terms I used I kept coming across the most beautiful black and white portraits of various African men and women, I knew by the theme they had to be taken by the same photographer. Thanks to the collaborative power of Pinterest it didn’t take much time for me to identify Mario Gerth as the talented photographer.

Mario Gerth is a German documentary photographer and photojournalist who has traveled extensively throughout Africa (and beyond). His work has covered subjects in Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Angola, etc. Let me stop wasting time with words and let’s just get on to some of Mr. Gerth’s magnificent work:

The above photos are just a small sample of his extensive portfolio. You can view more photography via his official Flickr account and/or Facebook page (displays more recent work).

My wife and I would absolutely love to have some of this photography in our home, but unfortunately this work is a bit too pricey for us. The smallest size prints (11 x 7 inches) runs close to $300, and it would still have to be shipped from overseas to the US, then matted and framed. You can get exact details on the ordering process and cost via his website or perhaps look for US based galleries authorized to sell prints. The later looks like a more expensive option.

Hopefully one day soon we’ll be able to afford such fine pieces of art, for now I’ll just have to settle for admiring from afar.
